Four Top Picks from Clerkenwell Design Week
Clerkenwell Design Week is a bi annual series of exhibition around the historical streets of Clerkenwell. When furniture, lighting and design studios are open to both trade and the general public. I confess to this being the first year where I followed the complete trail. I may have been guilty in the past of darting to a few select showrooms and getting distracted by the warm wine! This year I walked the full map it was a perfect time to catch up with new and old friends. Honestly speaking I was a little underwhelmed but these are my top 4 finds. (yes a weird number!)
1. Timorous Beasties for Brintons Carpets
There is absolutely no doubt patterned carpet is making a huge comeback. Brinton's a company with a vast archive and the Royal seal of approval have a new collaboration with Timourous Beasties. This comes off the back of a recent very successful collaboration with queen of beige Kelly Hoppen. Timourous Beasties injected their signature style of pattern in huge repeat in a toned down palette of monochrome with neon highlights. Brinton's is largely a contract supplier who work in stately homes and hospitality. Wouldn't it be great to have this as a rug in your humble dwellings. LOVE!
Pluck is a new news to moi. That in itself is so refreshing. Its great to be inspired by something new fresh and British. Everything on this stand was on point. the styling, colours and materials. The patterned Corian worktop is stunning, I personally have Corian in my kitchen. Its been installed for twelve years and it is bullet proof. My version is boring and white...this is a show stopper. Hello tangerine larder. I mean I burn fish fingers but I would love a larder in my life...I would probably use it as a magazine rack (my cooking skills leave a lot to be desired). The internals are stunning and can be customised to different finishes and colours. Some of the cupboards had black fleck cork shelves...beautiful and practical. SWOON! One to watch...
3. Devol Kitchens
Last years Devol Kitchen must be near the number one hit on Pinterest for kitchen inspiration. This new range has some serious design credentials. Hello Haberdashers Range! I spotted this beaut from a far. It’s tactile skin, it’s lean curves and henge muscles. What I’m trying to say is ... it ticks all the boxes. Totally swipe right for this babe ... and put a ring on it!
I have an original Haberdashery cabinet thats looking slightly tired. But I love it for its patina, history and craftsmanship. I can see all the authentic reference points. The Devol details are stunning from the dove tails joints, the mix of glass and brass, the burnished copper worktops. Come to momma... A total highlight!
4. Common Projects
A transparent company based in Leytonstone run by an architect. Ticks all the cool credentials. Passionate people with a transparent pricing system and a full service timeline. From design to full installation. If you go to Clerkenwell touch the cork splash back...its not what it seems.
