BORN & BRED STUDIO TITBITS. TOP TEN CHEST OF DRAWERS FOR KIDS BEDROOMS
Ahead of this months free down load '50 of The Best Chest of Drawers On The Market'...yes 50 people..five, zero! I thought I'd give you an edit and some insight into my generosity. (hee hee)
So the story goes a little like this. Bespoke (ie non e-interiors client) asks moi to source two chest of drawers for her kids room. Brief, must be deep drawers with dove tail joints and preferably under £300. Yes I said...no problem I said. Hindsight is a great thing...it was a pretty tough brief particular the budget dovetail part! Well to get to one set of chest of drawers that ticked most of the boxes so much research goes into the process. Insted of clogging up my very messy desk top I thought why not share? So the freebie will be going out this month.
Ahead of the info I thought I'd share my personal top ten favourites. Whilst some are outside of the origional brief, they certainly are my favourite finds. And just as a side note if you think you can get dove tails on the cheap...its possible but you know... somethings gotta give. So if a chest has dovetail joints they will have an mdf drawer front (if your looking under the£300 price point). If dovetails are your bag...hello yes please. I would check out Pinch & Bench Mark and really invest in a piece you are going to have for many years ahead. If thats a little out of reach, go vintage. There are so many fine examples of beautiful crafted pieces very cheap which with a lick of paint really will tick the boxes and be completely unique to you and your family.
And as a side note if space is at a premium I would suggest ditching a chest of drawers and investing in a wardrobe/locker/armoire that has internal drawers or shelves to store folded items. If you only have shelves...get organised and buy boxes for pants, socks, accessories. A chest of drawers can be great for the baby phase. It has dual purpose as a changing station which is a great space saver. But after that phase it can actually be quite an impractial piece of furniture. (In terms of using up floor space). So as always think about how you use the space not what you traditionally feel a bedroom should incorporate. When you look at all those Pinterest inspirational pics...none of them are 100% practical thats why there so aspirational.
Ok here we go...your welcome.
The Swedish giant was always going to make an appearance. This is a NEW range it offers great deep storage and the design is very easy on the eye. The wardrobe is one of my favourite budget storage options.
Maison Du Monde have recently opened UK concessions in larger Debenhams stores. They have some great pieces particularly for little people. The Fjord range comes in four colours and a patterned option.
This is a beautiful traditional looking chest of drawers. Its available in white & pink. Perfect for a romantic feeling traditional room.
The Sweet range comes in four colours. It also comes in a tall boy version. The wood trim really grounds the painted wood.
Clean, minimal no fuss and available in grey & white
These are a steel. Scandi inspired design ...look at that price!
Not the deepest of drawers but a cool choice for smalls...or arts & crafts/toy storage in a playroom.
Bon Ton have recently launched kids homeware in their UK shop on Westbourne Grove. SUPER Cute!!...The furniture is on the small side. But thats the point its for little people. Really special pieces designed for cool kids rooms. LOVE the mix of dark wood and grey.
Not a traditional chest but has the same end use. Again a mini piece of super cute furniture.
I rarely go down the rabbit hole of Wayfair but the client in this instance was a big fan. I really like this range from Dot Design. Simple and a great price. The colour makes it look that bit more premium. Its available in many configurations and would look great in multiples.
