Inside This Month’s Consultations: Because your all a little nosey…aren’t you?

One of the reasons we love these consultations so much is that no two are ever the same. Different houses, budgets and stages of life. But almost always the same feeling underneath it all: people wanting their homes to work better for the life they’re actually living now. People are particularly keen to get their homes right as were spending so much more time in them (hello family life, cost of living or simply just wanting to be in our personal space).

Here’s a little peek into what April looked like at Born & Bred Studio.

Kentish Town

A returning client who gets in touch at regular intervals as budget allows, slowly and thoughtfully upgrading the home he already loves. Honestly, one of our favourite kinds of projects. A trusted relationship built over time and a shared understanding of taste and priorities. His home is very much his sanctuary, and we’re incredibly lucky that he values our opinion so highly. These projects are a good reminder that not every renovation needs to happen all at once. Sometimes the most considered homes evolve gradually as our tastes do, room by room, over years.

Clapham

A very busy client expecting their first baby. Equal parts exciting and daunting. We discussed the practical realities of early motherhood, what products are genuinely useful, what will physically fit into the space, and how important it is to create small pockets of calm before life becomes wonderfully chaotic. We talked a lot about the emotional side of interiors too. Having a comfortable, functional sanctuary for those 2am feeds matters far more than people realise. As does reducing visual clutter and endless unfinished jobs when you’re suddenly spending much more time at home than ever before.

Haringey

A couple finally ready to push the button on a long-awaited kitchen and dining renovation. Like many homeowners, rising construction costs over the last few years have forced some compromises and re-evaluation. They felt frustrated that previous architectural conversations hadn’t fully addressed how the space would actually function day to day for family life. We explored layout options, practical flow, supplier suggestions, paint colours, and how smaller upgrades elsewhere in the house could help create a more cohesive overall feel without renovating absolutely everything at once.

Alexandra Palace

A family deep in the trenches of parenting with two children under five and a beautiful large home filled with decisions they no longer love. Like many parents, they’re spending a huge amount of time at home and increasingly aware of the areas that don’t feel finished, practical or reflective of them anymore. We walked through the house room by room, tackling a quick-fire round of questions, practical frustrations, and a few classic couple disagreements (marriage guidance is also included in the two hours!). By the end of the session, they had a clear list of immediate actions they wanted to tackle that very weekend, alongside trusted supplier recommendations for carpets, window dressings and follow-up quotations.

Cambridge Zoom Consultation

A second Zoom consultation for two very busy professionals. I was thrilled they came back to us, partly because their inspiration references were so good that I genuinely wanted to see how the reality was unfolding. Progress has been slow, because you know builders…, but it is coming together. This session was about solidifying choices so both clients felt confident and aligned. We discussed colours, colour application, proportions, tile choices and a few small architectural details that will make a big difference to the final result.

It was a lovely reminder that a consultation does not always have to be a starting point. Sometimes it is the midway check-in that gives everyone confidence to keep going.

Whether you’re planning a major renovation, refreshing a few key spaces, or simply need someone to sense-check your thinking before you move forward, a two-hour consultation can be an incredibly valuable starting point.

Our May consultation slots are now open.
