Whats the real meaning of luxury to you?

As we all settle into the rhythm of a new year, I’ve been reflecting on the real meaning of luxury, especially when you’re juggling work, school runs, dinner plans, and the never-ending list of to-dos at home.

What does luxury look like when you have a family, a full-time job, or a parent you’re caring for (insert your own version here)? Sometimes it’s silence. Sometimes it’s a tidy hallway. Sometimes, it’s simply not having to make one more decision.

Interior design is absolutely a luxury, but not in the clichéd, surface-level sense. It’s a luxury because it saves you time, energy, and costly mistakes. It gives you back the headspace to live your life, in a home that truly supports the way you want to live.

Hiring a designer is, at its core, an exchange of time and trust. Just like hiring a nanny, a dog walker, or an accountant. Yet for some reason, when it comes to creative industries, we feel we have to justify that value.

No one questions outsourcing legal advice, childcare, or their tax return. But when it comes to designing a home (arguably your most valuable asset), there’s still this lingering idea that you should be able to do it yourself.

The truth? You can’t. Not at this level. Not without wasting time, money, or most likely, both.

So if you’ve been circling ideas or sitting on decisions, maybe this is your season to hand it over. To gain back time, clarity, and a sense of calm. To enjoy the real luxury of not doing it all yourself.

As I personally step into a new year, I’m asking myself what I can outsource (answer: a lot). I’ve realised there’s no good reason I’m still doing everything other than habit, “I always have.” Tut, tut! There are simply areas of life where my time is better spent elsewhere, and quite frankly things I don’t enjoy or can’t do to the same standard as a professional.

By letting go, I gain time for what matters most right now: being with my (not-so-little) walking heartbeat before hormones take over. And yes, carving out the space to indulge in something I do enjoy, the time-consuming but fun job of sourcing vintage finds for my own home.

If you’d like to discuss working together on your home in 2026, we’re already booking forward and would love to hear about you, your needs, and your project.

BFN, I’m off to make my delegation list and then hit some car boot sales!
