NURSERY & KIDS TRENDS - Dark & Magical

Dark interiors have been on trend for a few years now. Championed by the likes of Abigail Ahern the queen of the dark side. It has become a staple in our living rooms. This look needs commitment so often the phone has rung when the room is incomplete..."Im not sure, its very dark maybe duck eggs better (duck egg is never better btw!)" The beauty of the dark room is in the finish and the commitment to the cause. To truly transform the space you need to embrace painting the ceiling, skirting and doors in the same colour. Its perfect for a Childs room as its instantly relaxing and has a cocoon like feeling. Finn's teen room is a great example...and seriously every time I walked into the room I wanted to curl up and fall asleep!

Its also an excellent back drop for bright colours and lighting. When choosing lighting always go for three sources. The main, a task light/lamp and a decorative light (garland lights). The garland light below is a great example of fun string lighting for a kids space. It also makes artworks and shelves of 'stuff' come to life. How adorable is this moon light. Exclusively available at UK boutique store Mini Maison.... the perfect backdrop for some bedtime bonding time.

I love all of these examples they look like (sophisticated!) real dens of fun and adventure...and just think of all the mucky hand prints that can be concealed on these dark walls. Perfect colour for all age groups from nursery to teen.
